It's crazy that this has been on my mind so heavily. Not because of a lack of it in my life (I'm fully loved, thank God) but because of the lack of knowledge that so many of us have of its true meaning. We've all grown up to think love is like the Disney fairytales, or the perfectly painted depictions on the television screens. I'll be honest and say, for the longest I was stuck in a bubbled wrapped fantasy of what "love" was. We all had some cliche idea of it. But, it didn't take life long to teach us through experiences and exploration of Corinthians what love truly is about. It took me to gracefully come into identity as a young black woman (still becoming and growing more) , embracing all that it embodies and still loving myself. Beyond failures and disappointment, I still loved myself enough to get back up and keep going. You see, love is not picture perfect. True love is work and it's always worth it. I'm grateful to have experienced self-love through knowing who I am first in order to always make room for more love and ways of loving.
It's deeper than the surface.
More than just an emotion—an escalated escape of emotions to some blissful euphoria.
It is not a possessive term..a right to claim.
Love is an action word—please do more than just saying my name.
It's tireless. It never stops.
It's blameless. Acknowledging all faults and fixing what was or almost broken.
It's unconditional. It is omnipresent—everywhere in all variations.
Lack of its presence is felt.
Love is an action word.
It's no competition. It's definitely no race.
It's patience. It's strides.
It has no lazy ties.
The fruit of its labor will forever multiply.
