Was she speaking of the music industry in general,life in general, or could it have been something else that she was describing?? I've listened to this song too many times throughout the years and I've never grasped it, the way that I recently have. It's my perspective, my thought process, my blog..so this is that I took it for this go round..
When you think of *air quote signs* The Illuminati, what comes to mind, besides Jay-Z, Kanye, Eminem, Rihanna, etc?? People don't want to believe that it's real..especially if one of the artist mentioned above are one of your favs. I'm no Theologian, Historian, Cultural Activist--none of that. I'm just a single, Black female with a thought and an outlet to channel it to. So,

Idk...Lauryn's song hit every pre-conceived notion that I've ever had of this secret society. All I know is this, I'm content with my salary for now..when its my time to blow up..it won't be a trade for my mind or my soul. Laugh if you may..but its real. Deception lives on until you realize, the real lies. And from what I've read, or even researched, if you trade it all in--only to later decide that you want out..the only way out, is to die. Ironic, that God sacrificed His ONLY begotten Son, so that we could all LIVE. But if you trade your soul for gold, then change your mind--the eternal gift of life that was once promised through God's sacrifice is void..you're gone. There's only one way to live. You can't straddle the fence; the saying is true. I'd rather struggle, put work next to faith, trust God to work it out and have eternal life. To live a lifestyle that everyone else cherishes is cool--til you hit that dead end. *no pun intended*
Didn't mean to write this much, honestly. I've always loved Lauryns word choice, & the images that she depicts, verbally through her bars. She was and will always be respected by me as an incredibly talented & creative writer. Creative writing is having the ability to express your self, painting a thought-provoking mental image via words. Writing is a powerful tool..Spoken word is a powerful tool.. It can relay a message in the heaviest of all magnitudes.. It can speak things into existence if its received. Be careful of what you choose to receive.
Ok, I'm done.. unless I think of something more.... I'm actually more interested in the input of others on this. I hear it all too often,"people believe anything".. "how you know its true?" , "where are the facts?" Man..... I'll end this post saying that deception is the trickiest of them all....masked by manipulation. That's mind control. It's REAL. If your thought process isn't in the shallow end of the pool--I'm sure you follow what I'm getting at. Do your OWN research, and connect the facts....it'll eventually lead you directly to the TRUTH (and that's regarding anything).
